Indiana Make It With Wool Contest

2022 Indiana State Make It With Wool Contest – July 31; Deadline for Entry – July 1

As you plan for your sewing, fashion revue, and needlecraft projects this year, please consider sewing, knitting, or crocheting with wool fabrics or yarns and enter your 4-H exhibit in the Indiana Make It With Wool (MIWW) contest. This state contest is sponsored by the Indiana Sheep Association and is designed to promote the beauty and versatility of wool fabrics and yarns and to encourage personal creativity in sewing, knitting, crocheting, spinning, and weaving wool fabrics and yarns. The state contest will be held on Sunday, July 31, at the Indiana State Fair at the Indiana Arts Building. 4-H’ers who advance to the state fair with their sewing, fashion revue, or needlecraft project(s) also are able to enter the state MIWW contest.

The 2022 state contest has the following seven categories: preteen, junior, senior, adult, made for others, wearable accessories, and home decor categories.

Pre-teen, Junior, Senior, and Adult categories must select, construct, and model their own garment(s). Contestants in the Made for Others category have their “other” (the intended wearer) model the garment(s). To be eligible, a garment must have been completed after January 1, 2021.

WHAT FABRICS / YARNS CAN I USE?

• 100% wool or wool blend (minimum 60% wool or specialty wool fiber) for each fashion fabric or yarn used. Specialty wool fibers include alpaca, angora, camel, cashmere, llama, mohair, and vicuna. Fabrics and yarns used in the junior, senior, and adult categories will be tested.  The other categories are not tested.

• The entire garment body (front, back, and sleeves) must be wool or wool-blend fabric. Vests worn with a suit, sport coat, or blazer may have a back of non-wool fabric. Vests worn as a top layer or with outerwear coat/ jacket must have a wool back.

• Trims, facings, interfacings, linings, and underlinings may be fabrics other than wool or wool blends.

The deadline for entering this year’s state contest is July 1, 2022.

State winners in the junior and senior divisions advance to the national MIWW contest to be held in January 2023 in Ft. Worth, Texas.
