4-H Beekeepers:
I am the superintendent of the project and will lead you through a live beekeeping experience and an extraction.
Last year, we did not have enough honey to give each of our beekeepers 2 pounds to show at fair. It may be the same this year. You might have to reach out to a local beekeeper or your own hives to get your honey. Bee prepared.
We will have a live beekeeping experience on Monday, 6/24 at 6pm. Meet at the Valpo Parks Dept. Admin. Bldg. 3210 N Campbell St, Valparaiso, IN 46385 (next to Butterfly Park and Community Gardens). If you have a suit, bring it for yourself. I will have suits for us to wear. Please wear closed shoes and long hair in a ponytail.
Beekeeping will be judged openly this year. The judge and I thought it would be beneficial for you to see the hows & whys of honey judging. It will make you a better beekeeper and honey producer.
4-H Beekeepers should continue to bring their projects to project drop-off night on Monday, 7/15. The judge and I will transfer those to the Expo East upstairs room where 4-H Beekeepers will meet us for the judging experience at 10 am on 7/16. During judging you will be asked to remain quiet. After judging, you may ask questions and we’ll share your notes from the judge. (Attending this judging opportunity is not mandatory.)
Thanks, Annette Hansen
